101 List Building Tips – Dos and Don’ts

Many apologies for such a long delay in posting the next episode of 101 List Building Tips.

My internet marketing journey has had to take a back seat for several months due to family crises, changes in circumstances, etc.  Suffice it to say that I’m back to post some really exciting tips to help you advance your own online internet marketing business.

So – let’s look at some real clangers you could make if you weren’t fore-warned!

List Building Dos and Don’ts

There are some common errors that  people who are new to list building tend to make. In fact, some of these are mistakes that experienced marketers make time and time again. Correcting these mistakes can mean the difference between having a solid, unbreakable relationship with your list and having a list full of people who simply delete your e-mails and unsubscribe.

Pay close attention to these dos and don’ts to ensure your list is a success.

And the Winner IS…..

I had to announce to the world that I just won!

Randy Smith ran a competition to get traffic to his blog.  To enter the competition I had to complete the sentence:

My Favourite Freebie I Got From Randy Smith is …

Now, usually only the established marketeers can win competitions to generate traffic and a newbie like me is left out in the cold.  But Randy, being mindful of his roots in getting started himself, allocated a prize for the person sending the most traffic and then some prizes for which names would be drawn out of a hat! So that meant the I only had to be “in it” to have a chance of winning.

I posted on Facebook and Twitter  – that my favourite freebie is Randy’s package of WordPress themes.  I don’t know how many of my friends and followers went to Randy’s site to look for freebies but a well-deserving Keith Purkiss won the competition for generating traffic.  However my name was one of the first 2 out of the hat (well, Randy admits it was a mug, but the result is the same!)  and so I am now the proud owner of a Camtasia Licence!

NOW I must really get on and work on my first ever “product” for which I was going to have to buy Camtasia… no excuses now!

Thank you, Randy, for running a competition that gave newbie marketeers a chance of winning such a great prize.

World Internet Summit – The Outcome

You may have been wondering why I am blogging.  Well, basically I NEED to find a reason to use my computer!  To me, life just isn’t worth living if you can’t use the beast every day – sad, isn’t it!  But I was lucky enough to find computers when I left school (back in the dark ages!) and have been happily either being employed using them or employing them for  my own interests ever since.  So when I basically “retired” I wanted to keep my computer busy and so decided to learn about life “online”, and if I could make money at the same time – so much the better.  So I tip-toed into internet marketing.  I’ve been dashing around here, there and everywhere – chasing every shiny object that offered to help me make money… none of them have BUT… I’ve learnt a whole lot and made a whole lot of friends all over the world.

Then I decided to curtail my spending and get back to the original dream of making at least some income to fund my “retirement” and boost the pension.  Hence my attendance at the World Internet Summit.

World Internet Summit

I’m attending the World Internet Summit in London at the moment.

It’s run by Tom Hua and Brett McFall from Australia.  This is the 43rd WIS they have run … in many parts of the world.  There are eager internet marketers from Europe and UK here at the moment.  I haven’t met anyone from further afield (except the Australians in the team) but I guess when the conference is in, say, the US, the delegates are mostly from there.

One very exciting feature of the Summit is that “we” launch a product and market it and see how much money can be made over the 4 days of the conference.  The product has been prepared in advance as has all the sales copy, website and videos.  The first thing to happen is that all the delegates are encouraged to purchase the product and sign up as an affiliate.  Then we go out an promote it!

The product is a application that captures a prospect’s facebook e-mail name Read the rest of this entry

Gap Year Adventures!

Make Money Online

My youngest son has just departed for his Gap Year project in South Africa and it has been a hectic time getting everything sorted.

For several years he’s been thinking of taking a “gap” year after finishing high school and before going to university.  First he did a lot of research into what he’d like to do, where, how and who with.  Then he picked a company – asked them lots of questions and finally handed over his dosh for the travel, accommodation, etc.  Advance planning showed his passport was valid but he needed some vaccinations – so he got those under-way.

Then there was a period of waiting, continuing his studies and sitting the final exams.  Finally that was all over – and, yes, he did really well and got the grades to get to the university of his choice.

Now we started the preparations in earnest!

We sat down and listed all the things he was likely to need – camera, backpack, toiletries, clothes, etc, etc.  Then we did some research – window shopping, comparing prices, features, trying samples.

At this point we stopped and took a checkpoint. We looked at the budget and revised the list of “needs” in the light of the available cash!  I can tell you that some things quickly turned into “nice but not essential” in the light of our “research”!

The next phase was actually acquiring the items required and keeping them somewhere safe, all together, so that when it came to packing we wouldn’t waste time hunting for them – or worse, losing them and having to buy a duplicate.

At last, after a few last minute scrambles it was off to the airport with a carload of friends for the great departure!

Good luck, son!

Now, you may be asking:  “Why is Jennifer blogging about her son’s gap year?”

I’ll tell you tomorrow in my next blog post …
