You may have been wondering why I am blogging.  Well, basically I NEED to find a reason to use my computer!  To me, life just isn’t worth living if you can’t use the beast every day – sad, isn’t it!  But I was lucky enough to find computers when I left school (back in the dark ages!) and have been happily either being employed using them or employing them for  my own interests ever since.  So when I basically “retired” I wanted to keep my computer busy and so decided to learn about life “online”, and if I could make money at the same time – so much the better.  So I tip-toed into internet marketing.  I’ve been dashing around here, there and everywhere – chasing every shiny object that offered to help me make money… none of them have BUT… I’ve learnt a whole lot and made a whole lot of friends all over the world.

Then I decided to curtail my spending and get back to the original dream of making at least some income to fund my “retirement” and boost the pension.  Hence my attendance at the World Internet Summit.

The “world famous” speakers were amazing, with real gems of wisdom and insight into the internet marketing business, although, sadly, I didn’t know a single one of them.  So, what did I come away with? I’ll give you the main gem(s) I got.

All speakers said: “Get a mentor” … obviously they were going to offer themselves as “the” one but it certainly drove the point home, with quotes like “You’re where you are because that’s as far as you can get yourself” – very true in my case.

  • Brett McFall – “The Simplifier”: Google looks for fresh, relevant information so update your blog at least every month, better-every week. And make sure you take 1 small step each and every day
  • Tom Hua – “The Viral Marketing Guy”: Success leaves traces
  • Roy Carter – “The Easy Cash Projects Guy”: Focus on creating something for yourself
  • Brittany Lynch – “The Adwords Insider”: Avoid the Dream-stealers
  • Sean Roach – “The Outside the Screen Thinker”: Don’t get caught up in the latest fad
  • Steve Essa – “The Webinar Guy”: Keep it flying – focus and momentum
  • Raymond Aaron  -  “Success and Investment Coach”: Internet Success = M+C  (Great Mentor + Great Connections)

There was much, much more, but I don’t want to bore you!

So where has that taken me?  Well I firstly signed up with Raymond Aaron’s “My Monthly Mentor” programme which promises to short out my “messes”, whether they be physical such as piles in my house, desk or computer, or relationships or financial, etc, and to help me set and achieve my own goals.

And secondly I signed up with John Thornhill’s “Partnership to Success” programme  which promises to guide me through the internet marketing maze to achieve the goal of making money online.  I had been thinking of joining John’s programme for some time and during the summit I found I was able to resist the wonderful “offers” because I had sort of decided to go “home grown” so that I had someone close at hand.  I know that with the internet the world’s your oyster but sometimes even technology fails and the good old telephone has to come into use – so cheaper to call inland than international.  Information on John’s MasterClass can be found by clicking here.

And thirdly – I’m going to post to my blog on a more regular basis -you lucky readers!

I will report my progress in each program in separate posts so that those only interested in one aspect of my development  don’t have to read the other!

Oh – and while I remember – I’ve just received notice of the next World Internet Summit – it’s going to be in Australia in February, 2012.  For those of you in that neck of the woods, click here and see what’s on offer!
